MBD and Open Theatre Company have joined forces to create  a series of family theatre shows working with performers with learning disabilities.

In 2018 the first show; The Twisted Tale Of Hansel and Gretel premiered at Birmingham Hippodrome and subsequently went on a small regional tour.  The tour was a huge success with great reviews and an amazing reaction from its audience.

By putting young people with learning disabilities at the centre of the creative process as well as the performances, the Twisted Tales project is a change-maker model in disability arts practice. The aim over the next 3 years is to create 3 more family theatre shows reworking classic fairytales with a unique twist.

In 2019 we will start working on a new fairytale ready to premiere in 2020.

A flustered storyteller is joined by a mischievous mocking bird as he follows Hansel and Gretel deep into the forest. All is not what it seems, as the characters start to tell their own version of this peculiar adventure.

Come along and meet the wicked witch and her really rather eccentric chefs in this truly imaginative version of Hansel and Gretel. Live music, hilarious performance and a mesmerising design ensures that this play will entertain and amuse the entire family.
