EMPIRE SOLDIERS VR

360 VR SHORT FILM

THE PROJECT

Empire Soldiers is a poignant tribute to the often overlooked contributions of Caribbean and South Asian troops during World War 1. Comprising two immersive VR films, this project was conceived to mark the centenary of the war's end, commemorating the bravery and sacrifices of these unsung heroes. From the harrowing experiences of the battlefield to the present day, Empire Soldiers delves into the complexities of race relations in the UK over the past century, prompting viewers to reflect on the progress made—or the lack thereof.

The primary objective of Empire Soldiers is to shine a light on the forgotten narratives of Caribbean and South Asian troops, whose stories have long been relegated to the sidelines of history. Through immersive storytelling, the project aims to foster a deeper understanding of the diverse contributions to the war effort and explore the enduring impact of war on communities of color. By examining the evolution of race relations in the UK, Empire Soldiers invites viewers to confront uncomfortable truths and contemplate the ongoing struggle for equality and inclusion.

Empire Soldiers is a must-watch for anyone interested in history, social justice, and human resilience. Whether you're a student, a history enthusiast, or simply someone seeking to broaden their perspective, Empire Soldiers offers a compelling and thought-provoking experience.

Empire Soldiers has proudly earned recognition by being selected for a showcase during Black History Month for shining a light on the stories of Caribbean and South Asian troops in World War 1. It is part of the 'StoryFutures Xperience' VR showcase and also made its mark at the Belfast XR Festival.
