RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
WHY RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT?
Research and development (R&D) is the systematic process of investigating, exploring, and experimenting with new ideas, technologies, or methodologies to advance knowledge and innovation.
MBD has a long history of research-based collaborative working. Whether scouring archives, gathering our own interviews, or working alongside University research groups, MBD’s work is built on sharing knowledge and crafting stories from what we find.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
1. Identify desired outcomes and obstacles
2. Research similar methodologies
3. Iterative development and testing.
4. Showcase a proof of Concept
WHAT WE OFFER
MBD’s has a history of research activities, including collaborations with Leicester University’s Institute for Digital Culture and Aston University. These partnerships have been instrumental in bringing forth some of our most distinguished creations.
Our joint efforts with Aston University resulted in two VR experiences namely "South Africa World War One" and "Interned: South Africa WW1”, which are on show to audiences in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal museum.
Another noteworthy collaboration with Leicester University resulted in the Virtual Vauxhall Gardens project. This innovative undertaking resurrected the long-lost rotunda of one of London's iconic leisure spaces, earning MBD a prestigious award for best cross-departmental collaboration.
The result of a long process of study and uncovering six decades of UK graffiti is now available to be seen at the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, as part of the exhibition Paint To Pixel X Repainting Subway Art.
At the moment we are working on ‘Steel Town Tales’, a Heritage Fund project dedicated to preserving the narrative of Corby's steel industry through meticulous exploration of multiple archival sources.
At MBD, collaboration with research partners is paramount. Whether it's safeguarding endangered stories or pioneering innovations that shape our future, we invite you to engage with us. From inception to execution, MBD's expertise breathes life into research, forging impactful connections between the past, present, and future.
