ODYSSEY

CO-LOCATION VR PERFORMANCE

THE PROJECT

Odyssey is a VR experience that tells the stories of care experienced young people. It was co-designed and written through a series of sessions with young people in care, and was developed in partnership with Derby Theatre and Derby University.

Odyssey is a walkaround co-location VR performance for audiences of up to 6 people, who share the same stories and the same physical and virtual space in real time, together.

It was originally performed as a virtual reality live audio play for audiences and was made over a four month period working with young people from all across the city of Derby.

The live production took place at Derby College Roundhouse in July 2022, where audiences navigated the virtual space through co-location VR technology, whilst immersed in live 360° audio of storytelling and song performed by young people.

Odyssey won the prestigious Stage Award for ‘Best Digital Project’ 2022. The award sits proudly in our office and inspires us to keep making great work that pushes the boundaries of what is possible.

If you would like to join a remarkable journey crafted by the creative minds of care-experienced young people watch the videos below.

Immerse yourself in their memories, daily lives, and aspirations for the future through captivating 360° and VR videos, imaginative environments, narrated stories, and soulful songs.

HOW WE DID IT

Odyssey's creation was a collaborative effort, blending traditional storytelling with cutting-edge VR technology. Over four months, we worked closely with young people from Derby to develop the narrative and leveraging the latest VR tech, we brought Odyssey to life, allowing audiences to share the same virtual space in real time.
