PAINT TO PIXEL

PROJECTION MAPPING

THE PROJECT

Paint to Pixel Projection, born in 2020 as part of Nottingham Light Night, transformed the town hall's 900 square metre frontage into a stunning canvas, captivating over 18,000 visitors across two nights. This ambitious project was a collaborative effort between MBD and street arts agency, Graffwerk.

Designed to showcase large-scale graffiti on public realm buildings typically off-limits, Paint to Pixel defied limitations. It illuminated historic and civic buildings, as well as structures too vast for traditional painting methods.

More than a visual spectacle, Paint to Pixel serves as a beacon, spotlighting graffiti as a vibrant art form deserving of public recognition and appreciation. By projecting high-end street art onto prominent public buildings, it amplifies the voices of marginalized artists, inviting all to bask in their creativity and talent.

HOW WE DID IT

Our approach to projects like Paint to Pixel involves taking existing artwork and tailoring it specifically for large-scale projection. In collaboration with Graffwerk, we curated a selection of high-quality street art, transforming it into dynamic visuals fit for projection onto the expansive canvas of Nottingham Light Night's town hall facade. By adapting artwork to suit the dimensions and contours of the building, we brought the vibrant energy of graffiti to life.
